Vehicle fire
Fire Control received a report of a recycling lorry on fire in the area of Magdalen Street in Exeter. Crews from Danes Castle and Middlemoor were immediately mobilised.
At 06:45 - Crews have confirmed that the vehicle is well alight. Crews are at work with 2x breathing apparatus, 1x hose reel jet and 1x thermal image camera.
At 07:10 - Crews have confirmed that the fire is involving rubbish contained to a refuse lorry. The hydraulic system of the lorry has failed and crew are unable to access the rubbish compartment or to tip the rubbish out. Crews are at work with 2x ground monitors, 50mil hose and 2x breathing apparatus to externally cool the vehicle.
At 07:46 - Crews have managed to gain access to the rubbish compartment of the lorry through holes in the roof. 2x triple extension ladders, 2x breathing apparatus and 2x hose reel jets are in use.
At 08:04 - Crews believe that the fire within the recycling lorry is now out however a decision was made to follow the lorry to the depot in case of any reignition. The lorry and crews got in attendance safely and are now checking the contents of the vehicle before handing incident over.
At 08:40 - Handover of incident has taken place with advice given to the staff and site manager of depot. Crew have confirmed that the fire is now extinguished and have checked temperature using a thermal image camera. The cause of the fire was accidental.
