Vehicle fire
2 fire appliances from Chard attended a car on fire this afternoon in the car park off of Crowshute Link in Chard. Fire Control received lots of calls from members of the public due to the vehicle being well alight and the car parks location.
The first appliance was on scene within minutes of being mobilised, with the 2nd appliance being requested for extra personnel shortly after the first crew booked in attendance.
This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 1547hrs. Crews worked well to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to other parked cars and nearby buildings, using 2 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jets (with compressed air foam). Once extinguished they then used hydraulic spreaders and a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots and ensure the fire was completely out. Once the vehicle and scene was made safe duty of care was left the owner awaiting recovery.
