Firefighters are currently dealing with a fire involving a property in Stoney Stratton Somerset. The first fire engine arriving reported smoke issuing but all persons were accounted for. Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus are working to locate the source of the fire. Crews have isolated the electricity to the premises and are at work in the roof space.

12:44 6 Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus are using 2 hose reel jets and thermal imaging cameras to locate and extinguish the fire. Additional resources were requested including an Aerial Ladder Platform and Water Bowser. The Incident Command Unit was mobilised to support the increased pumping appliances sent to the scene. 

13:13 Incident Commanders requested PV (photo-voltaic) Stop carried on DSFRS Aerial Ladder Appliances -  a sprayable liquid fire blanket which assists with blocking power to PV panels to prevent electrical generation. National Grid were also requested to attend. 

13:47 Firefighters requested the number of fire engines be increased to 8 pumps on scene to assist with Breathing Apparatus wearing.

13:57 A social media message was published to advise local residents to 'keep doors and windows closed' due to smoke plume within local area. Local residents were also using their own social media platform to communicate within the community.

14:41 Firefighters wearing BA were being rotated to ensure Firefighter safety and welfare. Firefighters continue to tackle the fire spread by using fire breaks.

The Environment Agency were made of aware of the incident along with other agencies including Bristol Water and Avon & Somerset Police. 

16:21 Crews are carrying out internal and external firefighting removing the tin roof. Crews are also salvaging items from the property. Equipment being used is 1 ground monitor, 2 hose reel jets, 2 main jets. 30 BA crews have been utilised so far carrying out firefighting and salvage duties. One 135 ladder, 105 ladder and 2 roof ladders were used. Steady progress is being made in all sectors.  

20:25 This is confirmed as one detached residential property of timber clad construction over two storeys measuring 25M X 15M. The ground floor, first floor and roof are 50% damaged by fire and 100% damaged by smoke. Crews used the following equipment to extinguish the fire: 

  • Thirty breathing apparatus wearers
  • Two main jets
  • Three hose reel jets
  • One ground monitor
  • One 135 extension ladder
  • One 105 extension ladder
  • Two roof ladders
  • Thermal imaging camera
  • Small tools

This is confirmed as an accidental fire. 

This incident is still ongoing.
