Property fire
Fire Control received a call this afternoon from the occupant of a property saying there was smoke inside.
The occupant was told to evacuate and Fire Control mobilised 3 fire engines to the address.
1 fire engine from Bovey Tracey, 1 from Newton Abbot and 1 from Ashburton, along with an Operational Assurance Officer attended the incident.
On arrival, crews confirmed smoke issuing from the ground floor kitchen/utility area. All persons were accounted for but crews managed to rescue the occupants pet rabbit from the first floor of the property.
This was a fire in the ground floor utility area involving an air fryer. The fire was extinguished using 2 breathing apparatus wearers, 1 hose reel jet, 1 safety jet, 2 thermal imaging cameras, 1 gas detection monitor and a positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fan was used to clear the property from smoke.
The cause of the fire was accidental. Suitable fire safety advice was given to the occupant and duty of care was left with them.
