Exemption list
In addition to domestic premises, care homes and houses of multiple occupation, some premises are exempt from the proposed changes due to site specific risk information gathered by our operational intelligence team.
High rise buildings, which are buildings over 18m tall, or seven storeys or more, are all exempt from the policy.
The list of exemptions as of February 2025 is below. Some buildings are not included due to sensitivity of use, for instance military premises. These can change, for instance as new risks emerge in other buildings which could be added to the exemption list, or as risks are reduced by new technologies or change in use and so removed from this list. We will keep responsible persons updated of any changes to this list so they can make sure there is a suitable fire risk assessment in place to keep people safe.
