Council Tax

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, would like to hear your views on this year’s council tax precept.  You can complete it online or if you require this in another format please contact the Communications and Engagement Team on 01392 872347. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority is committed to its ambitious plans to end preventable fire and rescue emergencies across the two counties while addressing the funding cuts passed down by the Government. It provides 85 local fire stations across Devon and Somerset and employs about 2,000 staff, helping to keep a population of 1.7 million safe. On average, the Service attend about 16,400 incidents every year. These include fires, road traffic collisions, flooding and other emergencies.

The Authority is seeking feedback about the level of council tax precept for the coming year and how satisfied you are with the service we provide, so please use this opportunity to have your say.

The Safer Together consultation closed on 22 September.

Engagement is at the heart of what the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service does – be that with our staff, partners in local government, the private, public and third sectors or our communities at large.


Our commitment to good engagement is underpinned by legislation, our Vision and own strategic aims and the expectations of the communities we serve. Our Vision states that:


‘Together, we will work to end preventable fire and rescue emergencies, creating a safer world for you and your family.’


We will do this by:


• Involving communities and colleagues in designing our services
• Innovating, using new technologies and approaches to reduce or remove risk
• Influencing behaviour, design and legislation, to make living and working environments safer


We aim to consult and seek feedback on all our services to ensure that we understand our customers’ needs and expectations and develop our services to meet these needs.


One of the key principles and values that underline the approach we take in delivering Our Vision is one of active consultation and engagement with staff, partners, stakeholders and the public.


We will provide opportunities for our customers to get involved in service design, development and review and help shape the future of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue service. We will seek feedback on our services to ensure that we understand our customers’ current and future needs, experiences and expectations, enabling us to identify service developments and improvements and to ensure that we critically assess our services and the information that we provide about them.
