Using QR codes to access pages on our website

QR codes are black and white squares that store information such as website links, phone numbers, images. They can make accessing information simpler and easier. You can use a smartphone or similar device to quickly access digital information, such as webpages, forms and surveys.

Most smart phones have built-in QR reader in the camera app. Some older phones will not. If you have an older phone, you may need to ‘enable’ QR code reading on your phone in the settings.

Basic steps to using a QR code

  • On Android, open the camera. Tap the cog icon and toggle on "Scan QR codes". Point the camera at the code and click the link that pops up.
  • On iPhone, open the camera and point it at the QR code. Tap the link above the code to open it.

Detailed steps using Android

  1. Open the Camera app. You can find this on your home screen or in the App Drawer.
  2. Select the forward-facing camera. The forward-facing camera is the one on the back of your device. If the camera app is using the back-facing camera (the selfie camera), tap the icon of the two circling arrows at the bottom-right corner.
  3. Point the camera at the QR code. The camera will scan the QR code automatically.
  4. A pop-up window will open.
  5. Tap the link in the pop-up window. You'll be redirected to the link immediately.

Detailed steps using an iPhone

  1. Open the Camera app. Tap the Camera app icon on your home screen to open the Camera app. It has an icon that resembles a camera.
  2. You can also open the Control Centre and tap the camera icon.
  3. Select the forward-facing camera. The forward-facing camera is the one on the back of your device. If the camera app is using the back-facing camera (the selfie camera), tap the icon that resembles a camera with two arching arrows in the centre to switch to the forward-facing camera.
  4. Point the camera at the QR code. The camera will scan the QR code.
  5. You'll see the link pop up above the code.
  6. Tap the link. You'll be redirected to the link immediately.

Trouble shooting

If you are unable to use the instructions above, you may need to enable QR code scanning.

Enable scanning on your device

Android
Tap the cog icon in the top-left corner to access the Camera settings. Toggle on Scan QR codes.

  • On Pixel devices, open your Camera app, tap on the settings icon at the top of the screen, and select More settings. Under General, toggle on the button for Google Lens suggestions.

iPhone

  • In iOS 12 later, QR code scanning is enabled automatically.
  • If you are using iOS 11, or your camera app is not scanning QR codes automatically, you may need to enable QR code scanning in the Settings menu.
    • Open the Settings app.
    • Scroll down and tap Camera.
    • Toggle on Scan QR codes. If the toggle switch is green, QR code scanning is enabled.
