Fire Appliance
Incident - Residential Property Fire

Date: 08/04/2021
Time: 14:01
Location: Manor Road, Alcombe, Minehead
Area: Somerset
County: Somerset

One fire appliance from Minehead was sent to fire alarms operating at a care home. On arrival, crews requested assistance due to smoke issuing from the 3rd floor. Further appliances were sent from Minehead, Williton, Dulverton, Lynton and the hydraulic platform from Bridgwater.

Crews then stated that some of the residents were unable to leave the building due to ill health. Most residents were evacuated by staff and firefighters, but those unable to evacuate were ensured of their safety. Crews investigated the cause of the smoke, which was believed to be coming from the chimney or concealed behind a wall. Thermal imaging cameras and chimney gear was used to access and extinguish the fire, which was between the flue and the chimney stack.

Fire damage was confined to the chimney, and the top floor sustained minor smoke damage. The cause was accidental. Crews left duty of care with staff, but will reinspect the building for safety this evening.

These are the final details.
