Have a go days for people interested in becoming on-call firefighters
Have a go at one of our taster days to find out what it’s like to be an on-call firefighter.
We are holding events at the following fire stations:
- 6 July 2024, Shepton Mallett
- 3 August 2024, Totnes
- 14 September 2024, Yeovil (Positive Action Event)
- 5 October 2024, Taunton
- 2 November 2024, Seaton
- 8 March 2025, Middlemoor (Positive Action Event)
- 26 April 2025, Barnstaple
- 17 May 2025, Ivybridge
Most sessions are in the mornings and last around three hours. You will need trainers and comfortable clothes.
There will be an initial introduction and information about the role. You will then wear personal protective equipment before having a go at a breathing apparatus guideline exercise. You can also have a look around the fire engine and speak to on-call firefighters to gain an overview of the role.
There will also be a fitness workshop where you can get hands-on with some of the equipment to gain a better understanding of the strength and fitness expectations.
