Fire prevention advice for premises
Following recent events of violent disorder in parts of our service area, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is providing advice that you can use to reduce the risk of fire.
We will continue to work alongside police and other partner agencies to plan for and respond to any potential future disorder.
But if you are concerned or have received information that your premises may be at risk, here is some advice you can follow to protect your property.
Steps to protect your premises from fire:
- Carry out or review your fire risk assessment, so that you can identify potential fire hazards.
- Make sure your staff know what to do in the event of a fire, by refreshing training and evacuation procedures.
- Make sure your fire detection systems are working properly.
- Make sure your fire escape routes are clear so people can quickly evacuate.
- Remove any waste cardboard or other items that could be used as fuel for any fires being set – especially if they are stored outside.
- Hard materials such as bricks that may be outside for construction should be moved or stored in a secure location, where possible.
- Store rubbish securely inside the boundaries of your property.
You can find more information on our advice for businesses website page, including information on carrying out fire risk assessments.
In the event of a fire, call 999 and follow the fire evacuation procedures for your property.
