Property fire
Fire Control received multiple reports of a fire within an agricultural building in the Littleham area near Bideford.
Fire crews from Appledore and Bideford was immediately mobilised alongside with the water carrier from Barnstaple and 2x fire officers.
Shortly after booking on scene, an assistance message was received for an additional 3 fire appliances, these were mobilised from Torrington and Barnstaple alongside with the command support unit from Ilfracombe.
At 03:44 - Crews confirmed that this is one agricultural building containing hay that is well alight.
At 03:54 - Crews requested the attendance of an aerial ladder platform - this was mobilised from Barnstaple. Crew from Hartland was also mobilised.
At 04:06 - Crews are now making use of a local hydrant and are at work using 1x45mm jet, ground monitor, 1x covering jet and 2x high pressure hose reels.
At 04:14 - Crews requested the attendance of a welfare unit - this was mobilised from Ivybridge.
At 04:58 - This is an agricultural building containing large quantities of hay and straw and machinery. Crews are at work using 2x 51mm jets and 1x 70mm jet.
At 06:16 - Crews are making steady progress using 2x 51mm jets, 1x 70mm jet, water bowser and local water hydrant supply.
At 06:44 - Incident is starting to be scaled down to 2 fire appliances - a request has been made for 2x fire appliance relief crews. Crews from Hatherleigh and Chulmleigh were alerted.
At 07:24 - Crews are making steady progress and maintaining a watching brief. 2x jets in use, 1x light portable pump in use and water still being supplied by a local water hydrant.
At 08:10 - Crews still maintaining a watching brief with steady progress being made. Crews are damping down hotspots, 2x jets in use.
Throughout the day, crews continued making steady progress and allowed the fire to burn out under control and dampened down any hotspots using a hose reel jet, 51mm jet and light portable pump.
Unfortunately the property was destroyed by fire and the incident was handed back to the property owner. The cause of the fire was accidental.
