Property fire
We received multiple calls just after 6.30pm this evening about two derelict buildings that are well alight with flames issuing from the roof and windows on Prince Maurice Road, by the new development, in Plymouth.
Currently, crews from Greenbank, Crownhill, Camels Head, Plymstock, Plympton, Saltash and Callington are at the scene and using two breathing apparatus and two jets to bring the fire under control.
Coleridge Road and Prince Maurice Road are closed, and local residents are advised to stay away from the area and to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke while the incident is ongoing.
Update 19:30 - The fire has destroyed the first two of a row of eight terraced houses, with a third house currently involved with fire and efforts underway to stop the fire spreading to a fourth house. Four attack jets and the aerial ladder platform are currently being used by our crews on the scene.
Update 21:30 - The fire involved a row of eight houses, each with four storeys - the affected area covers approximately 20m x 30m. The fire was stopped at the third house. Crews continue to work at the scene.
Update 06:30 (21 April) - Crews have been working overnight to dampen down hotspots. The buildings were vacant as in construction and building materials were also involved in the fire. Two buildings were completely destroyed by the fire with a third 80% destroyed. Three breathing apparatus, five attack jets, an aerial ladder platform as a water tower, two thermal imaging cameras, one ladder and two gas monitors were all used to bring the fire under control.
Update 08:30 - Crews have extinguished the fire and will return to the scene later this morning to monitor the situation.
