Two appliances from Newton Abbot, one from Bovey Tracey with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Torquay and a Supervisor Officer were mobilised to a report of a commercial fire in Market Street, Newton Abbot.

On arrival at the scene crew confirmed smoke issuing from the scene and got work with breathing apparatus.

Update 20:11

The Officer in Charge of the incident requested a further two appliances to assist at the scene, one from Paignton, Teignmouth with a Command Unit from Totnes and two further Supervisory Officers were mobilised by Fire Control .

Update 20:21

Fire within a mid terrace, involving of a chip shop one the ground floor and residential flats on the first floor. Fire within the chip shop and flat roof, crew are currently using breathing apparatus, hose reels, safety jet and thermal image cameras. The aerial ladder platform is being sited to get to work.

The Officer in Charge of the incident has now requested a further three appliances to the scene for assist with breathing apparatus, one from Buckfastleigh, Torquay and Ashburton with an additional Supervisor Officer were mobilised by Fire Control, 

Update 23:12

Fire within mid terrace property approximately six metres by twenty six metres, ground floor used as commercial chip shop and first floor residential flats. The main fire has been extinguished. Electric has now been isolated by National Grid and the Wales and West digging team are in attendance to isolate the gas externally.

Within a sector of the building crew have been withdrawn and now working externally due to structural concerns.

Good progress is being made exposing voids and roof spaces, the incident will be scaled down within the coming hour to leave two appliances and the aerial ladder platform in attendance.

Steady progress being made cutting away at the roof and dealing with possible hot spots.

Update 1100 21st Oct - this incident is now closed and all resources returned.

Update 03:55

Crews currently still at work cutting away roof space, thermal image camera, small tools and the aerial ladder platform in use.

Update 05:27

Temperatures checked and monitored within roof voids, crews at the scene detained awaiting advice from structural engineers, aerial ladder platform and thermal image camera in use.
