Incident type
Rail embankment
Location
Staverton

Paignton
Totnes

One fire engine was mobilised following a number of calls to Control reporting a fire on the railway embankment running alongside the South Devon Railway. Upon arrival crews confirmed that approx. 5 square metres of steep railway woodland and shrub were well alight.

Crews on scene then requested a second fire engine be mobilised to provide a second light portable pump.

Crews worked with South Devon Rail staff using a steam engine with a water supply to assist Firefighters to fight the fire, whilst the second fire engine was en-route with the light portable pump, which was then set up utilising water from the River Dart.

During the incident crews used:

  • One hose reel jet
  • One light portable pump
  • Scotty Packs
