Horse Rescue from mud
Specialist Animal Technical Rescue Teams from Weymouth and Bath joined Firefighters from Somerton to assist with the rescue of a 14.3hh horse stuck up to its neck in mud in the River Yeo near Yeovilton. The horse owner was attempting to support the horse keeping its head above mud when firefighters arrived on scene. Crews donned flood-suits and were deployed to support the farmer. A telehandler was sourced locally to provide assistance for the Technical Rescue Teams upon their arrival. A harness system was set up in conjunction with the telehandler to release the horse. Wading crews left the risk area whilst the horse was lifted from the mud and transported by telehandler back to a paddock.
The horse was left in the care of the vet and the owner to recover.
