Hello, my name is Beep and I work for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

Our firefighters are really busy at the moment so we need you to help keep yourself and others safe. The way you can do this is
to look at this presentation and complete the tasks I've made for you. I'd also like you to tell your grown-ups, your family and your friends everything that you will have learnt and tell them what they should be doing to keep safe when outside, in the garden or having a picnic and barbecue somewhere. Thank you and have fun learning.

When it's sunny, people like to have a barbecue or spend time in the garden.

Make sure you never play around or near the barbecue or any type of fire because it's not safe.

Remember that you must never make any type of fire. Tell a grown-up if a friend says it would be a fun thing to do, because you know it wouldn't be. You could get yourselves into big trouble.

Grown-ups have to be careful that a fire does not get out of control so if they do make any type of fire they must not walk away and just leave it to burn. Just make sure they put it out properly and mustn't leave any type of fire whether it's a barbecue or a bonfire burning at night.

This is my friend Pumper he wants you to know about a fire he's been to that was started because some people had a barbecue in the woods.

What happened Pumper? "Hello Beep, hello everyone. The firefighters had to work hard to put out a fire that had started because someone had used a barbecue for a picnic and not put it out properly they went home and the barbecue set light to the ground and the trees. The fire got out of control, it needed lots of fire engines and firefighters to put it out. It was very hot and very dangerous and it caused a lot of damage. The firefighters were very sad that someone had not been careful and it caused the fire.

Here are some pictures of the fire we went to, all this damage was because of a barbecue."

Well that was a lot of information wasn't it? We want you to be safe.

It's important that you talk to your grown-ups, it's about keeping each other safe and preventing a fire starting and someone possibly getting hurt and you can practice what you've learnt now by looking at some of the tasks on the worksheets we've made for
you. There's one called fire safety outdoors and there's one about firefighter maths.

Have fun and I'll see you later.
