Chair of the Fire Authority

Councillor Sara Randall-Johnson

A dedicated councillor for over 25 years, Councillor Randall-Johnson is the Chair of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority. Elected to East Devon District Council in 1991, she was the leader of the council for ten years and came off the council in 2011. Sara has a long history with the Fire and Rescue Authority, becoming a member in 2009 when she was also elected onto Devon County Council.

She is keen to use her experience to support the excellent work of the independent authority to reassure the public that this fire and rescue service is one of the best in the country.

In her role as Chair, Sara will be setting out a four-year plan, the time span that echoes her tenure as a councillor, to reflect the priorities of the Service:

  • public safety
  • staff safety
  • and efficiency and effectiveness.
Chair of the Fire Authority - Sara Randall Johnson

Sara believes the public should expect the very best from the fire and rescue service and puts great emphasis on the importance of focussing on the community which is at the heart of the three priorities. It’s this approach that Sara believes makes this fire and rescue authority stand out from others.

In other roles, Councillor Randall-Johnson is an active member of Devon County Council and chairs its Health and Adult Care Scrutiny Committee.  After a long and distinguished career, Sara retired from Flybe where she was Head of Public Affairs. Sara lives in Whimple.
