How to use our education resources

Guidance for teachers

Our education resources can be used to support lesson planning and home schooling. They can be given as individual home learning or remote learning tasks that could be set on a weekly basis. There is also a separate presentation and set of tasks to support the module on the Great Fire of London and a link given to London Fire Brigade who offer a resource bank on this topic.

Guidance for parents

These short tasks will teach your child about how to prevent fires, how to stay safe at home as well as life skills e.g. how to call 999. The tasks will make them aware of their home and local surroundings and highlight things that could be a risk and that, sometimes, grown-ups do not see.

There are short videos to watch featuring our smoke alarm character ‘Beep’. Each video has an associated task sheet which you can give to your child to complete. These can be completed by children alone but we’d also encourage you to use them as prompts for conversations with other members of the family.

Children can chat to older members of the family about what they have learnt and ask them to check smoke alarms or challenge friends to do the best demo of Stop! Drop! Roll!

When we visit schools we make sure that children understand that their parents and carers are ultimately responsible for ensuring that they are kept safe both at home and outside. We recommend you reassure your child that although they can play a part, you are also learning and being reminded what to do too.
