Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are pleased to announce that they have received full planning approval from Plymouth City Council for a new two bay Fire Station on the existing Plymstock Fire Station site. This new station will replace the old existing one.
This is part of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services, Safer Together programme of ongoing investment into our buildings to support our firefighters and the local communities.
The tender for construction works is currently live and this is a result of many months of close working between the Services estate's team, the operational working party, and professional designers. This is considered to be a really positive progression during the difficult and challenging time created by Covid-19 with the adaptions and secure working practices that have been successful been set in place. Work is anticipated to start at Plymstock Fire station in the early winter of this year.
The new fire station will:
- Enhance, reflect and complement the existing local architecture
- Be better designed by considering the functional requirements of a modern fire station
- Incorporate enhanced building design and layout, including consideration of sustainability which will minimise energy use and reduce it's carbon footprint
- Be accommodated on the existing site, thus resulting in both sustainable and environmental benefits due to avoiding greenfield development and its associated infrastructure works for example roads and utilities.
