Press Release - Well done to our latest on-call recruits!
Posted on 05/02/2018

Many congratulations to our latest on-call recruits for successfully completing their initial 12 day ‘core skills’ course. They are now trained in basic ladder and pumping drills. The on-call recruits will now head back to their individual stations where they will be issued with their pagers and can start responding to incidents.

Have you got what it takes!

On-call firefighters are fundamental to our emergency cover across Devon and Somerset.

Would you like to be part of a highly trained team in a role that is exciting, challenging and most of all rewarding. Incidents can range from attending fires, floods, road traffic accidents, chemical spills, and talking to your community about fire prevention.

You may be called out two/three times a week for one/two hours. This can be during the day, evenings or weekend but you choose the hours when you are available all we ask is for you to be flexible.  The minimum availability hour’s contract is 63 hours per week (part cover) and 84 hours per week (full cover).

There are no qualifications but you must be:

Aged 18 or over
Able to respond from home/work within 5 minute
Physically and medically fit with good eyesight and hearing
Prepared for the commitment and discipline of being a firefighter
Preferably hold a full UK driving license
