Incident - Horse Rescued from Water Filled Rhyne

Date: 23/09/2020
Time: 09:32
Location: Black Bridge, Huish Episcopi
Area: Somerset
County: Somerset

A fire engine from Somerton, a special rescue unit from Bridgwater and an advisory officer were sent to reports of a horse stuck in a water filled rhyne at the above location.

The owner was in attendance with the horse and had contacted a vet to attend for its welfare.

On arrival the crews wore dry suits and used water rescue equipment to enter the rhyne in order to attempt to lead the horse out of the rhyne.  Unfortunately due to being extremely fatigued the horse was unable to get itself out.

Luckily the crew were able to gain use of a mechanical digger to assist the horse out of the water and onto dry land where it was examined by the vet then handed back to the care of its owner.
