Incident - Domestic Property Fire

Date: 21/09/2020
Time: 14:39
Location: Churchill Road, Bideford
Area: Central
County: Devon

3 fire appliances from Bideford and Torrington, together with an aerial ladder platform from Barnstaple were mobilised following a call from a neighbour saying they could see smoke issuing from vents in the roof a house and there was concern that there may have been occupants still inside at the time of call.

Crews were on scene within minutes of booking mobile and were quickly able to establish that all persons were accounted for. After entering the property and investigating, the fire was located in a 2nd floor bedroom of the 3 storey terraced property. The fire, which started accidentally, was soon under control with crews using 4 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets, small tools, ladders, hydraulic spreaders and gas monitors to extinguish it and make the area safe. A thermal imaging camera was then used to check for hotspots, along with a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the property of smoke. Fire damage was confined to the bedroom of origin but the 2nd floor did sustain substantial smoke damage.

This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 16:53hrs. There were no casualties and once fire safety advice was given to the occupant, a Hot Strike (fire safety advice given to neighbouring properties normally in the form of a leaflet drop) was carried out by crews before leaving the scene. These are the full and final details.
