Two fire engines from Dawlish and Teignmouth were mobilised to reports of a fire within a house on Coryton Close.

Due to the amount of calls control decided to send a further fire engine from Teignmouth along with the aerial ladder platform from Danes Castle, Exeter.

On arrival crews requested a further 2 fire engines making the total to 5 these were sent from Torquay who were en route to standby at Dawlish and Newton Abbot along with the command support vehicle from Totnes.

Crews confirmed the roof is well alight and are at work with 2 hose reel jets, 1 main jet to try and extinguish the fire. The water bowser from Torquay has been requested to attend.

The building was a detached bungalow with a pitched roof with the fire being located in the roof space. Crews were at work using 1 main jet, 3 hose reel jets, 4 breathing apparatus, thermal image camera, triple extension ladder and small tools. The aerial ladder platform was used to strip roof tiles and damping down.

One male was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire was accidental.
