Incident - Vehicle Fire

Fire control received a call from a local resident who had been woken by a car alarm and subsequently found this to be coming from an abandoned 4x4 vehicle which had been set light to.

One fire engine from our Holsworthy fire station was mobilised.

On arrival crews confirmed this to be one 4 wheeled drive vehicle well alight. Crews set to work with two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a concentrated foam jet.

At 0343 fire control notified The Environment Agency that foam was being used to extinguished the fire but were unable at this time to establish the quantity and whether there was any environmental impact from its use.

At 04:03 crew on scene confirmed that crews were no longer using breathing apparatus and that the police were now on scene.

UPDATE

04:23 Crews have now confirmed that the quantity of foam was small and there was no environmental impact. Crews also confirmed that this was a stolen vehicle, maliciously set light to and abandoned. The fire was extinguished using concentrated foam, two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and small tools. The vehicle was 100% severely damaged by the fire. The police are on scene and dealing with this incident.
