Incident - Domestic Property Fire

Date: 04/02/2018
Time: 12:09
Location: King Street, Frome
Area: Somerset
County: Somerset

2 fire appliances from Frome and Warminster (Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue) were mobilised following calls from the occupants of some flats, where a fuse box was on fire in one of the flats, causing the alarms to activate and the electrics to blow.

Shortly after the initial crew from Frome arrived they confirmed smoke was issuing from the building and entered to investigate with 2 BA and 1 hose reel jet, confirming at 12:29hrs that crews had located the fire, involving a fuse board, within a bedroom of a 2nd floor flat. The electricity board were also requested to attend at this time as crews were unable to isolate the electrics to the consumer unit and therefore unable to extinguish the fire, which kept reigniting.

The electricity board arrived within the hour but they were also unable to isolate the electrics, so an electrical jointer was requested to attend the privately rented 3 storey block of flats, to completely disconnect the supply. Throughout this period crews maintained a watchful brief.

This incident is now complete and was finally brought under control at 15:54hrs. After the electricity supply was isolated crew extinguished the fire using 2 BA, 1 hose reel jet, 1 safety jet and 2 x CO2 extinguishers. There was 100% fire damage to the electrical cupboard, with the remainder of the flat sustaining 75% smoke damage. The fire started accidentally and did not spread. There were also no casualties and once the area was made safe crews handed duty of care back to the landlord.
