Diversity and inclusion objectives

We are committed to working to end preventable fire and rescue emergencies, creating a safer world for you and your family. To meet the risks and challenges we now require a different more flexible operating model, a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture. This means considering individual needs in our service delivery and for the people who work for us.

We are working towards increasing diversity in our workforce and nurturing an inclusive culture both internally and towards our community. The purpose of the objectives is to comply with the legal requirement to:

  • eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • advance equality of opportunity
  • foster good relations between people both inside and outside the organisation.

This is in relation to the ‘protected characteristics’. These are; age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, pregnancy and maternity, gender identity and marriage and civil partnership - characteristics that can relate to everyone.

The diversity and inclusion objectives of the Service have been brought together in the Diversity and Inclusion Plan.

This plan will be updated on an annual basis in line with our planning framework to ensure we remain flexible enough to always consider and address the latest developments nationally, regionally and locally.
