Fire fighters are currently in attendance in Victoria Street Paignton dealing with a large fire involving a premises. There are currently 8 fire engines and other supporting resources on scene working to extinguish the fire in a 4 storey building.

08:00hrs This incident is now being scaled back and the fire has now been extinguished. Firefighters are damping down and checking for hotspots.

At the height of the incident 6 Firefighters were in Breathing Apparatus using 3 hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, and an Aerial Ladder Platform was also utilised on scene dealing with the fire in the third floor flat.  

Police and Ambulance were also on scene.

Update 10:20  - 2 fire engines are still in attendance damping down hotspots and also assisting with fire investigation.

Update 14:00 - This building consisted of 4 floors, with commercial property on the ground floor and 2 domestic flats above. Fire located on top floor flat. Fire extinguished using:

  • 6 breathing apparatus
  • 3 hose reel jets
  • safety jet
  • thermal image camera
  • gas monitor

The flat was 90 per cent damaged by fire, smoke and water. Flat and commercial property below had 50 per cent water damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
