Incident - Gas leak within property

Date: 14/09/2018
Time: 23:23
Location: Bath Street, Chard
Area: Somerset
County: Somerset

A call was received at Fire Control from an occupier of a property at the above location, stating that they could smell gas leaking from their oven. Crews from Chard and the Environmental Protection Unit from Taunton, were mobilised to investigate. A Hazardous Materials and Environmental Protection Officer was also mobilised.

On arrival at the incident crews confirmed the leak and ensured that property had been fully evacuated and advised neighbours to keep all doors and windows closed. Two breathing apparatus wearers entered the property and isolated the mains gas supply and ventilated the house. Using a Gas Monitor they ensured that the gas readings within the property reduced.

Fire crews also used one hose reel jet, one safety jet, one covering jet and a triple extension ladder. The incident was handed over to the gas board. An ambulance also attended the incident.
