We were called to a fire involving a 20-acre area of gorse on the Baggy Point headland with a 200m fire front being driven by high winds.
We were using hose reel jets and specialist vehicles to prevent the fire from spreading. There were six fire appliances plus special appliances at the scene at the height of the fire and we’ve had two appliances there overnight.
Update 11am on 30 August
We currently still have two appliances there keeping a watching brief on the outer edge and damping down hotspots using water packs and beaters.
Update 9pm on 31 August
Firefighters have left the scene. Around 20 acres of gorse damaged by fire. The fire is believed to have started from a disposable barbecue.
