Safeguarding Manager

Summary

We are looking for a Safeguarding Manager to manage the safeguarding team to ensure they can provide effective support to high-risk individuals. You will also contribute to development plans to enhance the service we provide. The role will be based at our Service Headquarters in Exeter, with the possibility for some remote / blended working. 

Duties will include:

  • To be the Designated Safeguarding Lead, acting as the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.
  • To act as Case Manager for Safeguarding cases. Providing guidance, support and supervision to team and taking responsibility for identifying cases to be escalated.
  • Work with the Fire Investigation Manager to support Fatal Fire Reviews and ensure learning is actioned to decrease the risk to vulnerable groups.
  • Promote multi agency working with Children’s Social Work Services, including CSWS, Police, Local Safeguarding Children’s Board, local Safeguarding Adults Board and Local Authority Designated
  • Managing business activities within the Safeguarding Team, overseeing activities such as internal and external communication, developing training and induction material, ensuring guidance is up to date.
  • Managing the Safeguarding Team including supervision, training, policy writing/reviewing, welfare and continuous development.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring (DBS) check as part of the pre-employment checks for this role, and there will be a requirement for this Enhanced DBS to be renewed every 3 years.

Skills, qualifications and experience

  • Significant knowledge of Safeguarding and high-risk individuals.
  • Team leadership, organisational, analytical and decision making skills.
  • Excellent level of verbal communication/presentation
  • Proven ability to relate to children, young people, vulnerable adults, parents, carers and professional staff at all levels.
  • Ability to work to tight timescales and ensure issues of concern are promptly dealt with.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to create and deliver high quality training and development activities to a range of stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel throughout the service area and work outside office hours.
  • IT literacy.
  • Experience working in a safeguarding environment.
  • Graduate level or professional qualification in a related field or evidence of equivalent qualification.
  • Designated Safeguarding Officer Training.
  • Safeguarding Board Safer Recruitment qualification.
  • Safeguarding qualifications, equivalent to the Devon Safeguarding Board - Children: Group 2 & 3 and Adult Levels 1-5.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory guidance, including Equality Act, Child Protection Practice, Health & Safety, Data Protection Act, DBS Checks, Human Rights Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children & Young People and No Secrets.
