Press Release - Transferee Ceremony
Posted on 12/06/2017

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service held a Transferee Ceremony to welcome our new transferees and fire control staff into wholetime service.

The 19 transferees, five of whom are women, have transferred from one of our on-call teams or other fire and rescue services.

Chief Fire Officer, Glenn Askew said: “This is a highlight for the Service as we are committed to developing staff into new roles and introducing new people into the organisation. Whether it is an operational response, prevention or support role, we all exist to make the public and our staff safer and I am immensely proud of our transferees and welcome them to the Fire and Rescue Service family.”

Cllr Sara Randall Johnson, said: “The Fire Authority continues to make available resources for the Service to recruit, train and develop its staff and the quality of the training delivered in Devon and Somerset is second to none.  Whilst we have more work to do to ensure that our workforce fully represents the community we serve, I am particularly pleased that five of the transferees are women. I look forward to monitoring the progress of all our recruits as they make their way through their Fire and Rescue Service career.”

Alex Hanson, Assistant Chief Fire Officer said: “Everyone who has been recognised today has worked very hard to reach this point and it is a great pleasure to welcome you and your families who have supported you throughout your endeavours. It is, also, an opportunity to move forward with confidence into a new chapter of your career and I know that you will bring new ideas, enthusiasm and professionalism to everything you do and be proud to be part of our Service.”

The recruits attended a ceremony in front of friends, family and senior managers from the Service.
