Press Release - Learn how to fill your sand bags
Posted on 14/10/2015

Residents in Braunton are being given the chance to learn how to use sandbags during a flooding incident.

As winter approaches, a sandbagging demonstration event will take on Thursday 22 October at 6.30pm in the Caen Street overflow car park (near the police station), Braunton.

Organised by Braunton Parish Council, the event follows heavy flooding suffered in the town two years ago. The Environment Agency will be carrying out a talk and demonstration, assisted by Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.

The team will be demonstrating the correct procedure for sandbagging doorways to prevent domestic flooding and will also provide advice to the public about the hazards of walking and driving in floodwater.

Station Manager Dean Hastie, of Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Anyone who was in Braunton two years ago will be aware of the damage that can be caused by floodwater. We have been working very closely with the Environment Agency, parish council and other agencies to ensure residents are as prepared as possible in case the worst happens.”

This event is free to anyone who would like to attend.
