Incident - Fire In First Floor Flat

Date: 08/01/2019
Time: 23:18
Location: Torwood Mount, Old Torwood Road, Wellswood, Torquay
Area: Western
County: Devon

2 fire appliances from Torquay and Paignton dealt with a fire in a first floor flat after calls were received by neighbours reporting smoke issuing. At the time of call it was confirmed that no one was in the flat concerned but neighbouring occupants were advised to evacuate their flats.

Shortly after arriving crews confirmed the fire was involving the front door and set to work with 2 breathing apparatus wearers using 1 hose reel jet. They quickly had the fire under control and confirmed it was extinguished at 00:01hrs.

Once extinguished a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the property of smoke. The internal hallway was 100% severely damaged by smoke, along with fire damage to the front door, but the rest of the flat remained undamaged and there were no casualties. This incident is now complete and duty of care has been left with the Police, after confirming the cause of the fire to be deliberate.
