Incident - Domestic Property Fire

Date: 03/03/2018
Time: 00:06
Location: Avonwick nr Ivybridge
Area: Western
County: Devon

3 fire appliances from Ivybridge, Modbury and Buckfastleigh were mobilised following a call from the occupant of a farm saying their kitchen was full of smoke and everyone had been able to evacuate the property at the time of call.

On arrival of the first crew from Ivybridge, 2 BA wearers entered the property to investigate with a hose reel jet and confirmed smoke was issuing, later confirming the source of the fire was coming from a wood burning stove, in the ground floor kitchen of the farmhouse.

At 00:36hrs the fire was believed to be out but the property remained heavily smoke logged. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the property of smoke, after they used 2BA, 1 hose reel jet, 1 covering jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish it. Crews also isolated the oil tank supply as a precaution. Other than the heavy smoke logging there was no further damage and once the appliances were isolated and area was made safe, duty of care was left with the occupants of the privately rented property.
