Date: 13/09/2017
Time: 14:33
Location: Market Place, Sidmouth
Area: Central
County: Devon

4 fire appliances from Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary and Budleigh Salterton were mobilised following a call from staff at a hotel in Market Place, reporting thick black smoke issuing from the laundry room, the alarms were sounding and the hotel was in the process of being evacuated.

On arrival crews confirmed smoke and flames were issuing from the first floor of the 3 storey hotel and, after entering the building and firefighting using 4 BA wearers, 1 hose reel jet, 1 safety jet, 2 thermal imaging cameras and a positive pressure ventilation fan, confirmed all persons were accounted for.

After making steady progress the fire, which started accidentally and involved a tumble dryer in the laundry room, was brought under control at 15:36hrs. The fire and subsequent damage was confined to the floor of origin (first floor) and did not spread. Once the appliance and scene was made safe, duty of care was left with staff. There were no casualties and these are the full and final details.
