Incident - Domestic Property Fire

Date: 08/11/2019
Time: 20:45
Location: Henson Park, Chard
Area: Somerset
County: Somerset

3 fire appliances from Chard and Ilminster were mobilised following a call from a resident of a block of flats who could see smoke inside a neighbouring flat. It was unknown at the time of call if anyone was inside so Fire Control and crews treated it as persons reported.

Crews were on scene within minutes of the original call and confirmed fire alarms were sounding. At 2100hrs, after carrying out an internal search of the flat, they were able to confirm all persons were accounted for, although concern was raised that some of the occupants were possibly suffering from smoke inhalation. An ambulance had been requested at the time of call and was soon on scene, whereby they assessed the occupants and gave them the all clear.

At 21:11hrs confirmation that the fire was out was received and crews were at work clearing the property of smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.  2 breathing apparatus wearers, 1 hose reel jet, a safety jet, thermal imaging camera and gas monitor were used to extinguish the fire, which started accidentally and involved a cooker in the kitchen, and to make the area safe. Fire damage was confined to the cooker only, with slight smoke damage to the remainder of the flat. Duty of care was left with the occupants.
