Incident - Building Fire - Persons Reported

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting a fire within a retail premises at the above location.

Fire control immediately mobilised two fire appliances from Greenbank, one from Camels Head and an Operational Assurance Officer.

Whilst these appliances were mobile to the incident a further call was received from the occupant of one of the domestic flats above stating smoke was entering their property.

Whilst the Fire Control Operator gave fire survival guidance to the occupant, a further 3 fire appliances were mobilised by Fire Control. Two fire appliances were sent from Crownhill and one was sent from Plymstock. Additional specialist officers were also mobilised.

The first crews in attendance got to work extinguishing the fire using 2 breathing apparatus wearers and 1 hose reel jet. Crews were also using a 135 ladder to access the occupants of the first floor flat.

At 1205hrs crews confirmed that there were 2 ambulances on scene assessing the occupants of the flats.

At 1259hrs crews confirmed that the fire is now out and the incident will shortly be scaled back to 3 fire appliances. This was a fire within the ground floor of the property. Crews used 8 breathing apparatus wearers, 2 covering jets, 2 hose reel jets, 2 thermal imaging cameras, 1 positive pressure ventilation fan and small tools to extinguish the fire. 3 people and 2 dogs were rescued from a first floor flat and a further 3 people were led to safety by fire service personnel. The remaining three appliances will remain on scene checking for hotspots.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
