Incident - RTC - Persons Trapped

Date: 07/12/2017
Time: 12:42
Location: Bere Lane, Glastonbury
Area: Somerset
County: Somerset

2 fire appliances from Glastonbury and Street, together with the Rescue Tender from Glastonbury, were mobilised following a request from Ambulance for our assistance to a 2 vehicle RTC, where a car was in a head on collision with a tractor, trapping the driver of the car.

After assessing the incident and confirming one male casualty was severely trapped in the car, crews set to work extricating him using hydraulic cutting equipment.

Crews made steady progress, due to the condition of the casualty, working alongside paramedics to initially attempt a side ways removal, before carrying out a full roof removal and extrication of the patient.

The incident was brought under control at 13:54hrs. The casualty was conveyed to hospital via land ambulance, as crews made both the vehicles and scene safe. Duty of care was then left with the Police.
