Three fire engines and a water carrier from Bridgwater, Taunton and Somerton were mobilised to reports of a barn on fire at a Farm on Slough Lane between Stoke St Gregory and Stathe.

On arrival crews confirmed that one hay barn was well alight and crews asked for a further 2 fire engines which were mobilised from Taunton making the total to 5. There was one open sided barn 20m x 20m containing approx 200 tonnes of hay. Crews were surrounding adjacent buildings cooling them to make sure that the fire didnt spread. The power was disconnected by western power. Crews were at work with 1 main jet, 1 cafs jet (foam) and 2 hose reel jets.

All live stock was removed from the area and there was protection being provided to a 2000litre oil tank and a 1800litre diesel tank. Crews allowed the hay to burn in a controlled manor.

Relief crews were requested for 1am and they were sent from Bridgwater retained and Ilminster fire station.
