The Fire Service were called to reports of smoke issuing from the workshops.  Two appliances from Cheddar were mobilised to this incident.

Upon arrival crews requested a further two appliances, which are coming from Winscombe, Avon.  Crews confirmed large amounts of smoke issuing from the workshop, and crews are unsure what is within the workshops.

At 01:10, crews have now requested a further two appliances, together with an Incident Support Unit which is coming from Street.

Crews have confirmed this to be a 40 x 15 m commercial workshop, which contains numerous vehicles and motor homes, together with paint shop 80% fully involved in fire, the premises is a steel framed construction, fire is well developed within the centre of the building. 

Cylinders are within the premises, but unknown if involved in the fire.  Crews currently at work with four breathing apparatus, and a 200 metre cordon has been set up, incident has been sectorised, and currently the A38 is closed in both directions due to this incident and the cordon.

02:25hrs Crews have secured the water supply to enable covering jets to be set up. They are at work with eight breathing apparatus and laying out ground monitors. Four further appliances were also requested for manpower and for breathing apparatus, together with two incident support units.

0314hrs Crews currently at work using four ground monitors, two breathing apparatus and attempting to minimise water run off.

03:38 Breathing apparatus has now been increased to 8 externally making good progress. Western Power are in attendance together with the Environment Agency representative.

04:38 Crews are still making good progress working with 2 breathing apparatus and 2 ground monitors with the fire contained. An unaffected caravan is being moved by on site staff and a fire safety officer. Crews are liaising with the Police to minimise the disruption to the A38. Fire investigation has now commenced.

05:25 This incident will soon be scaled down to 3 appliances

05:45 Crews are currently dampening down. Numerous vehicles were involved in this fire including 2 motor homes together with a paint shop. An unknown amount of propane cylinders were involved in the fire which were extinguished using 8 breathing apparatus wearers, 4 main jets backed up by 3 light portable pumps from an open water source. A hydrant and the water bowser were also utilised. The A38 is due to be reopened shortly and the safety cordon to be reduced. Crews are also liaising with other agencies. Fire investigation is still ongoing to establish the cause

07:10 Crews are attacking hotspots from the outside of the premises due to an unsafe structure. The A38 is now open.

11:15 One appliance will re-visit the site at 13:00 for inspection.

13:14 Crews found numerous hotspots and got to work with Two Hose Reel Jets.

A reinspection is to follow at 2000
