Contract for life is one of our road safety campaigns which are aimed at reducing the number of young people killed or seriously injured on our roads. This hard hitting presentation by ourselves and other emergency services is organised by the Somerset Road Safety Partnership. The campaign aims to reduce the high number of young people killed and seriously injured on Somerset’s roads. A third of all car casualties on the roads in Somerset involve young people mainly between the ages of 17 to 24. The aim of the presentation is to highlight the consequences of a collision, not just for the driver, but also for the victims. This includes passengers, pedestrians and other road users. The presentation is based around a graphic DVD depicting a real crash. Police officers and firefighters attend and then talk to the young people about all aspects of road safety. At the end of the presentation the audience are given a contract for life that they can take away and sign, along with their parents or guardians or friends. In signing the contract they are agreeing not to put themselves or others at risk by the choices they make.
