Register of Risk Assessors

The law requires that the Responsible Person arranges for a risk assessment that is "suitable and sufficient". Many people are able to do their own assessment but others need the help of a competent risk assessor.

Guidance on Competency Criteria for Fire Risk Assessors and Choosing a Competent Fire Risk Assessor can be downloaded free of charge from the Fire Sector Federation

There are many skilled and competent fire risk assessors who advertise their services locally. Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service does not recommend individual assessors or service providers. We would advise you to seek at least two quotes and recommend that you consider someone with Third Party accreditation or from a register such as:

The Institution of Fire Engineers/Fire Protection Association
http://www.ife.org.uk/Fire-Risk

Fire Risk Assessors Certification Scheme
http://www.warringtoncertification.com/fracs.html

Fire Industry Association (FIA) Fire Risk Assessors Register

The Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM)

The Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register - OSHCR

http://www.oshcr.org/

The Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO)

If you are a risk assessor and do not belong to one of these registers you may like to consider joining. Alternatively if you already belong to a register that is not listed here please send details of the register to firesafety@dsfire.gov.uk for consideration to be included on this page.
