Extra care needed during adverse weather conditions

During the current spate of difficult weather conditions, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is asking people to be extra vigilant in their homes. Fire risk is always greater when temperatures plummet and people are relying on extra heating sources. • Do not leave open fires unattended • Turn portable fires off when leaving the room • Do not place combustible materials next to a heat source • Have smoke alarms fitted and make sure they are working Chris Hole from the fire service in Taunton also said: “Please be aware that when driving conditions are difficult and with the increased number of weather related incidents, our response times may be longer than normal.” He asks the public to be alert at all times. We are working closely with other emergency services to provide assistance at incidents as quickly as possible. Finally, please do not travel unless your journey is absolutely vital, as this will minimise the risk to yourself and others.
