The media are invited to attend a presentation at Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service HQ, Thursday 22nd October 2009 on Thatched Roof Fires – the causes, fire spread, construction, protection and new build design.
Every year, over 50 historic thatched buildings out of an estimated stock of 24,000 listed properties are destroyed and lost through preventable fires “mysteriously” breaking out in the thatch. The reason has been understood for a number of years, but still the losses remain constant.
The Institution of Fire Engineers -South Western Branch will be holding the event. Speakers will be Marjorie Sanders and Roger Angold from the National Association of Master Thatchers.
Ends
The presentation runs from 10:00 –13:00hrs, at 12.00pm a photo/film opportunity will be available as part of a thatched roof will be set on fire and extinguished.
Interview opportunities will be available after 13.00hrs.
