Incident - Fire In Supermarket Distribution Centre

Date: 06/07/2018
Time: 17:04
Location: Kings Road, Bridgwater
Area: Somerset
County: Somerset

3 fire appliances from Bridgwater, Burnham and Taunton, together with an aerial ladder platform and environmental protection unit from Taunton, were mobilised following multiple calls from the site reporting a truck on fire inside the warehouse.

The initial crew from Bridgwater arrived on scene at 17:14hrs and after investigating confirmed this was an electrical forklift truck on fire. They set to work extinguishing it, with 2 breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet and 2 x CO2 extinguishers, quickly bringing it under control by 17:35hrs. However, even though the fire was out crews remained on scene for some time, liaising with staff to try and find the best way to ventilate the building of the smoke that had accumulated.

At 18:30hrs crews confirmed the incident was under control. After making both the vehicle and scene safe, crews used positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the large building of the smoke, before leaving duty of care with site staff. Damage was confined to the forklift, 80% by fire and 80% by smoke. There were no casualties and duty of care has been left with site management.
