2 fire appliances from Plympton and Ivybridge were mobilised following a call from the driver of a car, who had to pull over into a layby after smoke started issuing from the engine, as well as a smell of burning within the vehicle itself.

Crews confirmed there was a fire in the engine compartment and by 12:31hrs it was contained and extinguished, after using 2BA,  1 hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera. The fire had burnt through the drivers foot well, resulting in the heavy smoke logging. Once the crews made the vehicle safe it was left in the hands of the owner awaiting recovery, and the incident was left in the hands of Police, carrying out traffic duties.
