Incident - Barn Fire

Two appliances from Paignton and the water bowser from Torquay were mobilised to reports of a barn on fire at the above location.

A further appliance from Torquay was then mobilised due to the large number of calls Fire Control received.

On arrival crews discovered the barn measuring approximately fifteen metres by thirty metres well alight. The barn contained approximately fifty bales of hay and two tractors.

Crews got to work with compressed air foam and two breathing apparatus.

The environmental unit and support appliance from Newton Abbot were then mobilised. Crews made pumps six for manpower, further crews from Totnes and Brixham were mobilised with the incident command unit also from Totnes.  

At 22:20 - Crews continued to surround fire in centre bay of the barn and  protect nearby adjacent barn.  Western power isolated the low voltage over head power cable, water shuttle used with water bowser and hydrants.

At 04:30 7/10 - Steady progress made, water curtain from main jet provided protection to adjacent barn which contained fertiliser.  Compressed air foam and ground monitor used.

At 07:30 - Steady progress still being made, Compressed air foam has now been discontinued, Relief crews have been arranged and police are also in attendance for traffic management.

At 16:20 - Two crews still at the scene, removing contents of the barn and damping down.
