Incident - Derelict property fire

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting smoke issuing from a derelict hotel.

Fire appliances from the following stations were mobilised; Camels Head, Greenbank and the aerial ladder platform from Crownhill.

On arrival of the first appliance, the officer in charge confirmed there was smoke issuing from the ground floor, and crews were attempting to gain entry to the property.


This became a persons reported incident so the officer in charge requested 3 additional fire appliances.

The further appliances were mobilised from Plymstock and Crownhill, as well as the Incident command unit from Totnes, to support the incident commander.

Fire control made cover moves in and around the Plymouth area to make sure all the resopurces in one area were not depleted.


the incident commander confirmed this was a derelict hotel, consisting of 10 floors, with smoke issuing fro vents on the ground floor. Ladders, water jets and small tools are being used. 3 persons are believed to be inside.


The fire was confirmed to be in the reception area of the hotel on the ground floor. Breathing apparatus has been increased to 10 to search upper floors.


All breathing apparatus teams have now been withdrawn. All floors have been searched. No persons were located.


15% of the ground floor reception area has been damaged by fire.

This incident will soon be scaled down and closed.
