Incident - Barn Fire

Three appliances from Middlemoor, Ottery St Mary and Danes Castle were mobilised to reports of a barn on fire at the above location. The water carrier from Danes Castle was also mobilised.

On arrival crews discovered the barn well alight. They requested a further water carrier and the telehandler. The second water carrier was sent from Torquay and the telehandler was mobilised from the USAR team at Service Headquarters.

Crews then made pumps five for manpower. Further crews from Honiton and Sidmouth were sent and the incident command unit from Honiton.

A four by four was also requested and mobilised from the USAR team.

Relief crews from Exmouth and Sidmouth were mobilised.

The barn was approximately thirty metres by twenty metres and contained approximately six tonnes of sawdust, two tyres, fifteen tonnes of straw, twenty tonnes of hay, insulation and three tonnes of animal feed. All was involved in the fire.

Crews removed the contents to the open air with the telehandler and local farmers tractors. They then allowed this to burn off and used two hose reels and one 70 mm jet.

The barn was thirty per cent damaged by the fire and the contents were seventy five per cent damaged by the fire.
