Incident - Barn Fire

Two fire engines from Yeovil were mobilised to reports of a barn on fire at a farm in Barwick.

On arrival crews confirmed one barn was well alight and asked for a further 3 fire engines which were mobilised from Crewkerne and Yeovil along with a water carrier and a incident command unit.

The barn measures 60m x 40m and is fully loaded with straw, trailor and a tractor. Crews at work with 4 main jets, 1 cafs jet and 4 breathing apparatus.

Update 1830hrs

The incident has been sectorised into 3 sectors. 2 sectors are perimeter cooling and one is at work cooling. Crews are currently using 2 main jets, 1 cafs jet and four breathing apparatus sets. There are still a number of appliances in attendance with relief crews starting to arrive.

Update 1200hrs 12th August

There is still one fire crew remaining at this incident carryig out a watching brief damping down hotspots and protecting adjacent buildings. This is going to continue with another relief crew this morning.

Update 2100hrs

Crews will be leaving the scene within the hour. Crews have dampened down the barn and adjoining barn using water from a dam which was set up for water. The fire was extinguished using 4 main jets and 1 caffs branch . The barn and contents were totally destroyed by fire. The barn contained 300 tonnes of straw a trailor and a tractor.
